Volunteering at The Beacon
Thank you for considering volunteering for The Beacon, it is very much appreciated.
Our volunteers make a big difference to what we can offer our children, they improve staff well-being and work:life balance by becoming an additional member of our team. Our volunteers tell us that they enjoy their work at The Beacon, it helps them to 'live life in all its fullness' - which is our vision for every member of our One Big Beacon Family.
We call upon volunteers to help with any and all of the seven classes, they often 'follow' a class and get to know the children well as they grow through the school. Volunteers at The Beacon receive training and support, they are regularly invited to join staff training so they feel confident in the support they are giving children and have opportunities to get to know staff. It is important to us that our volunteers feel valued as a member of our One Big Beacon Family. We are very grateful for the significant difference our volunteers make to our One Big Beacon Family and our ability to support everyone to 'live life in all its fullness'.
Our volunteers help and support us in a variety of ways, for example:
- beach school, forest school, adventure school and other trips,
- hearing readers,
- learning support,
- praying for our school and our One Big Beacon Family,
- helping us make resources for learning,
- mental health and well-being support,
- language support and conversational interventions,
- working with children whose first language is not English, in their own language and in English,
- playing board games, card games, lego, art and craft activities,
- gardening,
- cooking and baking,
- playtime and lunchtime games and clubs,
- working in our library.
