Children’s Mobility Visit to Italy, May 2022
Between the 2nd and 7th May 2022, a group of six children from Year 5 visited our link school in Faenza, Italy with Mrs Billington and Miss Pavey. We stayed in a 4* hotel close to our partner school in the heart of the beautiful town of Faenza which is a global centre for ceramics. In school, our children partnered with children from Italy, Spain, Slovenia and Greece, learning about the trades and crafts of the local area and considering how technology has changed these and how it may enhance them into the future.
As part of our studies, we visit the beautiful cities of Ravenna and Florence as well as exploring the town of Faenza in multi-national groups using an online treasure hunt created by our host school.
Photos of the town of Faenza.
Ravenna is a beautiful town where we will see Roman and Byzantine buildings which remain in use today.
Florence is an absolute ‘must visit’ destination and we were lucky enough to have a day trip. Being a wet day, there were fewer tourists than usual, we visited the key city-centre sights and had a guided tour. We even managed a visit to the Uffizi art gallery at a time when he galleries were almost deserted!
Some examples of ceramics, both historic artefacts and modern masterpieces!
…and of course the food is something our children are really looking forward to. Strangely, I didn’t take a photo of pizza when Mr Johnson and I visited last November, but pizza will certainly be enjoyed when we’re there!
Learning together We enjoyed learning in our ‘European class’ for the week. We used a wide range of computer programmes and tablet apps, worked in multi-national teams to create quizzes for group competitions and took part in workshops such as the ceramics which was led by a local ceramics artist.
