Catch-Up Premium and Tutoring
ISince the school year 2020 to 2021, schools have received funding to support us to meet children's needs following the impact of missed learning time due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Schools can use this funding for activities to support children to catch up for the lost teaching and learning because of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
We recognise the importance of the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) guide which outlines evidence-based approaches to catch up.
Our approach to catch up recognises the EEF recommended approach:
- Teaching and whole school strategies
- supporting great teaching
- pupil assessment and feedback
- transition support

- one to one and small group tuition

- extended school time

- supporting parents and carers

You will find an overview of the strategies we plan to use below.
Not all these will be funded by our Catch Up Premium.
The Governors have recognised the importance of ensuring that the child's own teacher or a member of their usual teaching team is providing the catch up if it is going to have the best possible impact. An additional teacher was employed full time to ensure this. In this way we can continue the catch up in periods of isolation and school closure wherever possible.
Teaching and whole school strategies
- Ongoing assessment and review for all children
- Transition support, Summer to Autumn 2020,transitions back into school following periods at home and for 2021 transitions.
- Staff training around trauma and the impact it has over time.
- Staff training in using and developing best practice in blended and remote learning.
- Staff training in using Microsoft Teams (our Remote Learning platform) and other tools, websites and apps for remote learning.
Targeted approaches
- Mental health support, mentoring approaches for individuals.
- Reading Recovery
- Small group 6-week English lessons alongside the class lessons with a specific, targeted aim for progress. This means all children in the class are taught in a smaller group.
- Pre-learning and 'instant' intervention in maths.
- 'Conferencing' - regular meetings between a child or a very small group of children and their teacher focusing on short-term support for very specific targets to be achieved very quickly.
- Phonics interventions alongside the whole class teaching.
- Reading support for individual children and small groups.
- Targeted support to improve physical activity, fitness and regaining a love of sport and activity.
Wider strategies
- Bespoke support for parents to be able to access their child's remote learning and to confidently be able to use the technology required.
- Parenting support for parents and carers to support them to develop the routines and strategies to successfully support their child's behaviours and attitudes for learning at home.
- Increasing the number of devices we are able to loan to our families to support remote learning.
- Vulnerable child places at Holiday Clubs run by our Sports Coach on site.
