Collective Worship for the week of 27th April
Our collective worship this half term is all about friendship.
Monday 27th April
Today there is a story to share. You can download it here. It’s about a group of friends and how they supported each other at a tough time.
Tuesday 28th April
We’re all missing our friends and family at the moment, it’s really hard that we can’t see or be with them. In yesterday’s story, the friends enjoyed doing lots of things together, then something changed and they couldn’t do those things. Although the reason in the story is different, it’s easy for us all to feel sad at the moment.
It’s OK to feel sad. But there are things we can do to make us feel better and happier. One of the things we would have done this week in Collective Worship is to make strips of paper for paperchains. Perhaps you could spend some time with your family colouring one side of the paper and making it look cheerful.
Then, each person in your family can take some strips and write the name of your friend and what you loved doing with them on the other side of the paper strip. Together as a family, you could make a paper chain of all those happy memories.
There’s a prayer we could say.
Father God,
It’s hard to feel alone. It’s hard when we can’t go out to play or see our friends.
Help us to find the good things we can do, help us remember to good times we have enjoyed.
Help us to be a blessing to other people so they can smile when things get hard.
Amen.
Wednesday 29th April
Do you remember the friends across the world song? On the last week of school, Mrs Hughes and the children who travelled to Greece taught it to us in Greek. There’s a video of it on our website. Go and have a look and see if you can sing along! The words are there too. Have a look through the pages of our Erasmus+ visits. Maybe you could say a prayer to ask God to look after all our friends across the world – they are all still in lockdown, just like we are.

What makes friendship special?
Have a look at the questions and images here and talk about them with your family.
If you’ve got it, have a look at a video clip from the BFG – you need the bit from 57minutes to 1 hour (about 3 minutes). The clip begins with Sophie and the BFG in giant country. She points out the unfairness of the other giants constantly bullying the BFG and offers to help him finally stand up to them. The BFG asks where her blanket is, which she reveals to have dropped in giant country. The BFG realises the danger Sophie is in and takes her back to England, with the intention of leaving her there for her own safety. Sophie is upset and says she isn’t afraid, and wants to help the BFG, rather than hide away, due to how much she cares for him.
Friday 1st May
Today we’ve got a different acrostic poem about friendship. Do you remember the story we heard on Monday? How does this poem fit in with that story? Who were the good friends in that story? What did they do that made them a good friend?
F is for faithful; they’re loyal to the end.
R is for reliable; they’re true and don’t pretend.
I is for the interest in sharing thoughts with you.
E is for enjoyment whatever you might do.
N is for neighbourly; they’re kind in every way.
D is for dependable on every single day.
S is for that special friend you know is always there,
The one who makes you happy and you know will always care.
