Summer Reading Challenge

Even though our local libraries are currently closed, you can still access a wealth of resources on their online platform. The Reading Agency have launched their summer reading challenge for children aged 4 to 11. The challenge encourages primary aged children to continue to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure, whilst providing lots of fun and engagement.

Click here to join the silly squad and begin your reading challenge!

You will be able to get rewards, play games and earn badges as you discover awesome books to read this summer.

How can I take part?

  1. Sign up to the silly squad website from the 5th June, you will have up until September to complete the challenge.
  2. Set your own challenge to read any amount of books between signing up and September. You can read anything that makes you happy - whether it be comics, joke books, poetry, fiction or non-fiction.
  3. Each time you finish a book, add it to your profile and write a review. You will be rewarded with activities and incentives along the way, such as online badges, games and videos.
  4. Once you have completed your challenge, you will be eligible to receive a Summer Reading Challenge medal and certificate.

The website is free to access and features games, quizzes and downloadable activities that encourage children to take part in reading related activities.

Click here to find more information for families in the 'home zone'.

Where can I find books to complete the summer reading challenge?

Visit the Devon Libraries website here to find out how to gain access to eBooks, audiobooks, comics and magazines for free that you can use to complete the challenge at home.

Alternatively, we have more information and links to online reading materials on our home learning page.

I hope you have lots of fun taking part. I cannot wait to hear where your reading will take you!

Take care,

Miss McDonald
